Welcome to the 2015/16 season for London Junior Mustangs
White Minor Bantam. My name is John
McLay and I’m excited to be coaching this team next season. As a quick introduction, I coached the London
Junior Mustangs White Peewee team last season and have lots of experience
coaching after 8 years of coaching hockey and soccer. I have coached house league and competitive levels,
boys and girls, and coached children from 4 to 16 years old. I’d
like to share some important notes and thoughts about the team and season to
ensure everyone has the same information.
During tryouts, all updates will be posted on this website. In order to participate in the tryouts, your child must be registered via your home association’s web site and they must have attended a checking clinic. The Junior Mustangs are offering a checking clinic on May 6 if you have not already attended one this season. The checking clinic consists of an in class session at 6pm at Western Fair Delta Room and a 8-9:20pm on ice session at Western Fair LCC pad. The checking clinic is intended to teach players how to deliver and receive body checks. Goalies are welcome to participate in the checking clinic but it is not mandatory.
Our tryout evaluations will be supported by many non-parent evaluators to ensure a fair process. All players should bring water bottles; goalies are asked to bring their own jerseys. If the jersey has their name on it, that is very helpful. More details on the player split for the first tryout dates will be provided later this week. Where will they be provided? On this website – congratulations; you were paying attention.
In addition to the tryout dates posted on the site, we will be adding an exhibition game on May 20. Again, details will be provided as we approach the date.
We all understand that tryouts are part of competitive athletics; however, they are a stressful process for players, parents, and coaches. Please support and encourage your child during this process. If the registration numbers come in line with last season, there will be more children released than there will be on the team. This 2002 age group has always had high registration and very talented teams.
Once the team has been selected, we will have a mandatory player / parent meeting where all parties will sign an intent to play form. Date and location are TBD. We will collect our first team fee at the meeting; likely in the $200-300 range.
I can be contacted through this website if you have any questions,
Thanks, John
