The Jr. Mustangs U11 White won the Platinum Cup 'A' division this past weekend with an exciting 3-2 overtime win against the Quinte West Golden Hawks at the Toronto Maple Leafs' Ford Performance Centre. The Mustangs won their second tournament of the season with an excellent total team effort.
The Mustangs goalies and defenders allowed only eight goals against in six games, while every single forward managed to score, including hattricks from Braiden Jones and Joe Oliva. In the hard-fought finals, Jack Matthison scored twice to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead, but Quinte West pushed back to tie the game with just over a minute remaining in the third period. In overtime, Colby Campbell kept the Mustangs alive with an incredible glove save. A few minutes later, a brilliant backcheck by Keaton Flick put the puck on the stick of his defensive partner Carter Westaway, who went end-to-end and fired a wrist shot top shelf to win Gold for the Mustangs.
