Owen Sound Silver Stick Champions
The Minor Bantam Purple Mustangs travelled to Owen Sound and came home with a perfect 6-0 record and earned an invitation to the International Silver Stick Finals.
The team started the tournament Friday with a pair of hard earned victories, 3-1 versus Ajax and 5-3 versus Innisfil.
The Mustangs finished the round robin Saturday morning with a 5-4 victory over the hometown Owen Sound Jr. Attack. The quarterfinals were up next on Saturday afternoon and the Mustangs earned a 2-0 victory over the Grimsby Kings, outshooting them 44-12.
Sunday morning saw the Mustangs prevail 4-2 over the Whitby Wildcats, overcoming an early 2-1 deficit in the second period.
The finals was an entertaining, hard fought game agains the Guelph Gryphons. The Mustangs scored late in the third period to earn a 1-0 victory.
