Welcome to the 2022-23 Hockey Season
The 2022-23 Mustangs Hockey season is on the horizon, and the coaching staff are raring to get started on another great year of hockey. If you have any questions or concerns during prep skates or tryouts, please email the head coach, Ben Charlebois: [email protected].

Prep Skates

Prep skates for U12 will take place:

  • Friday September 16 - 8:00-8:50 at Bostwick A
  • Saturday September 17 - 4:30 - 5:20 at Bostwick B
  • Sunday September 18 - 3:30 - 4:20 at Bostwick B
  • Monday September 19 - 5:30 - 6:20 at Bostwick B

All prep skates are optional. The purpose of these ice times is to allow players time to shake off the summer rust prior to tryouts, and consequently no evaluation will be taking place during the prep skates. Prep skates are open to all players who have registered for tryouts. Players are asked to bring their own jersey and water bottle.

Evaluations

Note: Our tryout structure has changed to accommodate changes in registration. The new format is included below, but please continue to check back in the days prior to tryouts to ensure that no further changes have occurred.

Evaluations are scheduled to take place:

  • Wednesday September 21 - 7:00 - 8:20 at Bostwick A
  • Thursday September 22 - 6:30 - 7:50 at Bostwick A
  • Friday September 23 - 6:00 - 7:20 AND 7:30 - 8:50 at Argyle A
  • Saturday September 24 - 1:30 at Bostwick A (Exhibition Game vs Mustangs Purple)
  • Sunday September 25 - 12:00 - 1:20 at Bostwick B
  • Monday September 26 - 6:30 at Carling A (Exhibition Game vs Mustangs Purple)

Each player will attend either

  • Wednesday the 21st or
  • Thursday the 22nd.

Players will then attend one of the evaluations on Friday the 23rd. Lists will be posted prior to the start of tryouts to let you know which evaluations to attend.

If your player is released and would like feedback, feel free to send me an email, but note that we won't begin responding to feedback requests until after tryouts are completed.

We're non-parent coaches, and as we tell our players each fall, it doesn't matter what jersey you wore last season - everybody has to earn their place on the team. Our objective as coaches is to put together a fun season for everyone, to build a team that can win hockey games and to help you pursue your goals - whether that's perfecting a skill, learning to speak up on the bench, or aspiring to higher levels of play.

We are looking for hard-working hockey players who are going to put in the effort to better themselves throughout the season. While we're looking to build a skilled hockey club, we have always placed a premium on effort and attitude. We're going to ask a lot of our players, and evaluations are an opportunity to show us not just that you can put the puck in the net (or keep it out), but that you can listen, be a positive presence, and give 100% when asked.

The 2022-23 Season

Last season, as a result of COVID cancellations, we were limited to two tournaments in addition to the Alliance Championships. This season, we intend to compete in four tournaments (Ottawa, Barrie, Hespeler and London) and will be aspiring to defend our title at Alliance. Suffice to say, there will be no shortage of hockey this season.

For those unfamiliar with Seeded A/AA play, the season begins with a Seeding round in which we play each of the 13 other A/AA teams once. In the New Year, after all teams have played each other, the league splits into a top half (or AA) and a bottom half (A).

Our practice schedule is available under the Team Calendar tab, as are games up until the New Year and tournaments (October, November and January).
